You understand the power of your thoughts and the principles of how Divine Light manifests itself in your life ... you've learned (and are still learning) to listen to your Divine Soul ... you understand how to activate the alchemy of transformation ... you've released an outdated dynamic that has been with you for a loooooong time ... and you’re feeling a little naked emotionally and are not sure what this ‘newness’ is going to look like now that you are there.
You want to know, “What comes next?”
So, ask your Divine Soul that very question.
This is a great exercise or game that comes from improvisational theater to teach students how to relax in the moment while they are on stage and to interact in the scene without bursts of frenetic energy that are grounded in fear rather than the dynamics of the scene. Scenes filled with controlling people are painful to watch. Scenes in which the players are calm and centered, putting themselves into the ‘play' and interacting moment by moment with themselves and others, are a pleasure to watch because the energy flows like water. These are the kinds of scenes in which creative magic happens.
Here is how the game is played. We put someone on stage and the scene begins with them asking, “What comes now?” The off-stage ‘director’ (who can be a person, group of people or even the audience) gives them an activity to do. The ‘director’ has a clearer vision of the whole picture because he or she is not involved in the actor’s fear. The person on stage does the activity and when it is finished, asks, “What comes next?” They are given direction, they do it and then ask again, “What comes next?” This goes on until the scene comes to a natural close. Through living a scene step by step, without having to make their own decisions, they learn what it feels like to be present in their emotional ‘nakedness’.
This theater game also works on the ‘stage’ of your life when you allow the ‘director’ to be your Divine Soul.
Ask within, “What comes next?” or “What do I do now?”
Do whatever comes to you; if it isn’t right, you’ll know it because it either won’t keep your attention or it won’t feel ‘right’. When you feel that activity has come to a close either because it is finished or because you have lost interest, repeat the question and follow the answer.
What is magical about this exercise is how easily it puts you in the moment, fully engaged with whatever activity you are doing. And, just because your ego-intellect didn’t make the decision, doesn’t mean there isn’t lots of space for personal creative expression.
By the way, it is easy to lose sight of linear time doing this exercise so, if you have somewhere you need to be at a certain time, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to set an alarm clock as a reminder. If you are more practiced at it, then your Divine Soul will remind you that your appointment is ‘what comes next’.
If you have a short attention span, this exercise can also train you to stay on task, if that’s what you need to learn. How? Well, when you find yourself getting distracted and you ask, “What comes next?”, you might just find that your Divine Soul tells you to continue what you are doing.
I have had clients say they have learned to multi task using this exercise. Their Divine Soul will remind them of something they need to take care of; they do it, and then are redirected back to the original activity.
In a more mundane example of how this exercise can assist you in being present in the moment, is when you are feeling overwhelmed with too many things to do and you feel there is not enough time to do them in. Have you ever been there? You spend all your time thinking about what needs to get done and you end up getting very little done. Play the game and ask within, “What comes next?” and let your Divine Soul guide you through all the tasks on your to-do list.
This can also be applied in relationships. You’ve given them Light, cut the chords and now it is time to discern what is coming from the heart and what is coming from old habit patterns. Ask within, “What do I do now?” Remember, our Divine Souls are communicating with each other on levels our conscious awareness isn’t always privy to until we directly ask. You will be guided in ways your ego-intellect couldn’t possibly fathom unless guided from within.
So, what comes next for you, right now?
